Aurora Over a Dead World

In humanity's last refuge, the flying island Aurora, the military and the [Kairas] are the only forces keeping human civilization alive as they descend into the [Horizon] in search of resources, ancient technology, and anything else that might ensure the survival of their species. In this devastated world, monsters born from fear emerge from humanity's own mistakes and from the technology created when people tampered with things they were never meant to touch.

Zenith, a former commander and war veteran, is demoted and assigned as the tutor of six troublesome students—girls far too powerful to be entrusted to just anyone and far too dangerous to ignore, as they have the potential to become some of humanity's greatest talents.

Sarcastic, ruthless, and seasoned, Zenith has no intention of being a model teacher or of teaching only what the government wants. Her goal is not to make her students stronger—it is to teach them how to survive. In the Horizon, power, talent, and potential mean nothing if a single mistake is enough to get you killed.

Most of her students believe their abilities make them special. Zenith intends to prove otherwise.

But as the lessons progress, the true horror of that world begins to reveal itself. Amid forgotten ruins, brutal simulations, military operations, and monsters that defy understanding, Zenith must prepare her students for a future where even the strongest can fall.

Because monsters are not the only threat lurking beneath Aurora. Ambition, fear, obsession, and humanity itself have claimed almost as many lives as the horrors roaming the world below.

And in the process, Zenith may discover more about herself as well. After all, she shares something with her students: an incomplete past surrounded by unanswered questions. A past that may be connected to truths far greater than she can imagine.

In a world where humanity's mistakes never stay buried, will Zenith be able to uncover the truth?

Or will she become just another victim of it?
